MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Thank you to all artists who donated to D'Art for Art this year....A bigger "Thank You" to those who gave more than one piece!

Recently, someone told me that they were hesitant to donate too much of their work because they felt that they were giving it away. I found this disturbing, and it took me a few minutes to figure out why and how to respond. Then I recalled that at the start of each season at the Kravitz Center, the General Manager comes onto the stage and tells the audience that the price of their ticket does not cover costs.  They depend on donors in order to serve the community.

To me, the Lighthouse Center serves our community extremely well.  I cannot be a large dollar donator, but I can give generously through my art.   D'Art is a fund raising event that helps pays the bills! Also, giving better pieces makes me proud to have my work shown in someone's home and this is GOOD ADVERTISING.

Yes, be selective in choosing where you donate.
The Lighthouse Art Center is MY number one choice.

The show this month at the Jupiter Community Center is another venue that gets a lot of local attention.  Everyone who attends classes or goes to community meetings walks by.  I attended a special showing that was part of a cocktail party given by the town the other night and the feedback was very good.  I hope that even more of you participate next year.

Paint something about FOOD and bring it to Kitchen Works, on Indiantown Road, on November 12th.

NCAA had a very good meeting last month.  Sibel Kocabasi did a video presentation of her body of work.  It was interesting watching her journey through years of artistic development and the changes that came about in her Art.

This month Ted Matz is going to discuss color and talk about his Plein-aire painting.  It should also be a fine evening.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

D'Art this year is going to be bigger than ever!
This fantastic event has grown and is a major fundraising event for the Lighthouse Art Center.
.....Therefore, more of your very special donations are needed.
Please be generous and bring an extra piece of your finest artwork to Monday's NCAA meeting.
Thank you all,
Gerri

Dear Artist,
As Palm Beach County’s oldest art center, the Lighthouse ArtCenter needs your help. One of our major fundraisers, D’Art for Art, is a cocktail and dinner party in which ticketed guests choose and take home a work of original art, such as paintings, drawings, sculpture and jewelry. Each year, our artist friends support the event by donating their art that they are proud to display in the museum and have placed in the hands of collectors.

We expect to sell out the event, and we need more art than ever before!
We would greatly appreciate it if you would donate a piece of your signed original art to the 7th Annual D’Art for Art fundraiser. Your artwork will be on exhibit in the museum. We are also listing all participating artists on our website, at the exhibit and in the printed event program.

We throw a great party for donating artists called the “Artists’ Appreciation & Collectors’ Party” on Saturday, November 2. This event is a big “thank you” for every donating artist and his or her guest. Delicious food is provided by “In the Kitchen,” there’s an open bar, and we also give awards to the winning artists that evening and send out a press release about the artists. (The Artists’ Appreciation & Collectors’ Party” is sponsored by Key Private Bank.)
Please drop off your artwork any day before October 24, 2013. (Our hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by appointment.) Two-dimensional work should be framed, edge-finished or gallery-wrapped, and wired ready to hang.

If you have any questions, please contact our curator Barbra Broidy at (561) 746-3101 or Barbra@lighthousearts.org.
On behalf of the Lighthouse ArtCenter and the “D’arting” art patrons, we thank you in advance for your support! We can’t do it without you!

Sincerely,

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Linda and I just spent two days in St. Pete and really enjoyed the Dali Museum and the waterfront cafes. It's fun to do short trips around Florida.

Now I am ready for my European jaunt.  Katy DiGioia emailed me that the yachts were outrageous in Venice. I guess that everyone "important" was there for the opening of the Biennale.  Maybe they will wait for me to get there! I've been reading the reviews and am quite excited.  I expect to scour the city finding all the hidden venues in addition to the main ones at the Arsenale and Guardini.

Anyway, back to reality.
We have several major attractions right here in Palm Beach County.

Our summer show at the Juno Town Hall will open on Friday, June 14th.  The reception is from 5:30 to 7:00 and I hope that many of you can attend.  The artwork of Effrian Fay, Carol Frezza, Linda Hastings and Bill Sabino will be featured this year. This show will be open until October 8th.

The Art of Association at the Lighthouse Art Center has opened with 19 of our artists featured. It is really interesting to see what is happening among the many groups in this area. The Reception and Awards will be on Thursday, June 20th.  This show runs through August 15.

Our demonstration this month will be by painter and NCAA member, Manon Sander.  She has begun teaching classes at LAC to rave reviews.

The All Florida Juried Show at the Boca Museum will be on through June and part of July.
It is usually quite interesting and contemporary.  Judy Fleisher's work is featured this year.

Also, check out the plein aire painters group that is showing their work at Art of Association.  This  group gets together through Meetup.com

Oh, D'Art for Art tickets are selling quickly..(GREAT!!!)  Contributing artists are receiving quite a discount this year. Make your art pledge and and purchase a ticket for $250.  It is an AMAZING event!!!!

Start creating your entries.... Artybra is returning in September!

Please let us know about your adventures, artistic or otherwise.

Happy  Summer!
Gerri

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

This month brings the Art of Association Show at the Lighthouse Art Center.   We are so lucky to have this opportunity...again, Thank you, Katie Deits!  We've received the entries and drop-off of art is set for May 29th.  I will be contacting all entrants by Email to gather all pertinent information. This exhibit will run from June 3 to August 16 and includes many groups from all around South Florida.

We have been invited to have four of our artists display their work at the Juno Town Hall this summer. The four artists this year will be: Efrian Fay, Carol Frezza, Linda Hastings and Bill Sabino.  They were selected because work should look well together. The Opening date will be in our June issue.

The artists who have been hanging work at " Kitchen Works" will be having a cooking session there on Thursday night...should be fun!

The All Florida Juried Art Show is opening at the Boca Museum on May 8th.  This is a chance to see very current, high quality work from around the state. It's well worth the trip.

For those of you who haven't joined the Norton Museum recently, I would suggest that you check out their website. They have really expanded their program of lectures and gallery talks. Also, their" Museum After Dark " Thursday nights offer music as well as art and will take place all summer.

Our demonstrator this month is April Davis.  She paints extremely large Florida landscapes and has her studio on US 1 in Tequesta.  April is busy all winter on the art show circuit around the state.

I am looking forward to my June trip to the Venice Biennale!!!  It is the most prestigious art show in the world and should be very exciting.!!!!! Over seventy countries are invited this year and each will send one very avant-garde artist to represent them.  Lately the art has mainly been
huge installation work and the city is just bursting with it.  Many world famous artists received their initial recognition after showing in Venice. If I am able to take good pictures of the art,  I will do a Venice night when I return.

Happy travels to many of you.
Gerri

Please let us know if you have good news to share......won awards, sold work, gone somewhere special.

I just love this time of year in South Florida.  The weather is fabulous and there are so many things to do. The Art Shows have arrived at the Convention Center and will continue throughout the month.  Their lecture series at these shows bring in experts from around the country and are offered free of charge every day.

In addition, there are the continuing activities at the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach throughout the season. They are generally moderate in price and quite wonderful.

Some of us have been going to the Norton's "Art After Dark" on Thursday nights and they are usually a fun evening. Last week was Italian night, with Frank Cerabino playing the accordian, a lecture on Renaissance Art and arias by the Palm Beach Opera.

Our own Lighthouse Art Center is constantly bringing us a wide range of cultural activities....check out their calendar!

Bruce Bain will be our presenter this month at the NCAA meeting.  Bruce has a presentation about taking better pictures. This should be of interest, not only to photographers, but particularly to painters who are always battling with composition and light.

It's been a good winter so far for Plein-air painting.....Join us!
This month we will revisit the vegetable and flower garden at Abacoa, where Linda Hastings spends much of her time.   It is right next to the Allegro assisted living complex.  (that's the best direction I can give you...google it)
We also are planning on a day of river views from Cynthia McCallister's house on Riverside Drive.

At the January meeting I will show pictures from Art Basel Miami.  Many of you were there so there should be lots of input.

See you on the 14th.
Gerri
