I have just returned from another wonderful adventure. This time I enjoyed a long visit to Barcelona and really felt that I could savor the remarkable architecture and feast on the flavors of the city. Then it was onto my family roots in Bilbao. I had not visited the city since the Guggenheim Museum was built and to say the least, was not disappointed. It is a visual joy, a jewel. Lastly, a few days in Paris, an old friend...that always amazes. The art that I saw will sustain me, at least, until Art Basel, in Miami, in December! Anyway, back to reality!...and a good reality it is.

As soon as I returned, Katy DiGioia and I delivered paintings by 18 of our members to the FAU Campus. This show is having its' Opening Reception on June 9th from 5:30-7PM. We would love to see a huge turnout for this fine event. Katie did such a wonderful job and as a result we have been asked to make it an annual event at the college. The show is in the central atrium in the library building. Go west on Donald Ross Road to the campus entrance, turn right, then turn right into the first parking lot.

Katie Deits is doing the publicity for us at the Mos'Art Theatre exhibit in Lake Park. Again, quite a few members participated. We decorated the lobby of the theatre and our work will be there through June. I would also suggest seeing some of the fine films being shown at Mos'Art.

Our June demonstrator will be Nancy Tilles. Nancy is a fine portraitist and painter of great detail and depth. I think that she will have a lot to show us and discuss. Also, Nancy has just joined us at The Village Art Studios.

For the July meeting, let's plan on bringing one of our own paintings and we can each talk about what motivates us in our work.

MINUTES of May Meeting submitted by Virginia Furey

Carol Steinberg led our very enjoyable May meeting and demonstration. Our guest demonstrator was Cynthia McCallister. Although new to our area, her art has already made an impact. Cynthia's specialty is painting waiters in various positions based on croppings of photos taken at some of the best Parisian restaurants. The audience was enthralled by her use of water soluble oil paints. It doesn't seem possible, but these oil paints are miscible in both water and linseed oil. She promised easy water cleanup and a non-toxic benefit. Thanks, Cynthia. We look forward to seeing more of her work.

Katy DiGioia gave a very precise presentation on the upcoming FAU exhibit. Please don't forget to sign the "hold harmless" form required by FAU. The dates are: 5/14-Artist Statements due; 5/24-Deliver Art to Gerri's Studio; 6/9 Reception at FAU Atrium 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.; 8/4-pick-up art.

Thanks to all who have paid their dues for 2010. It's never too late if you haven't.
