MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

April is going to be a very busy month for NCAA members interested in displaying their art work. First, and most importantly, is the Student/Member Show at the Lighthouse Center for the Arts. Art should be delivered on March 29th and the show will be from April 2nd-27th. Remember, this is a show for members of LCA (a very good thing to be!) or students in one of their very fine classes.

Additionally, Katie Deits, Lighthouse Director and member of NCAA, has arranged for us to have a show in April at the Mos-Art Theatre in Lake Park. It will run from mid-April through May. Exact dates will be available in the next week or two.

Ann Lawtey gave a very interesting demo at our March meeting, and as a result there was interest in Ann giving a workshop on her Monoprint technique. She manipulates oil paint on a lucite surface and then transfers the images onto paper. It seemed like an idea that could go even further in the workshop setting. Let me know if you would like to be included in the workshop.

The Third Thursday events at Gallery Square North were especially well attended this month. The theme was Opera Night and it was fantastic at all the venues. I think that we are going to become a real "Destination" in our area. The Lighthouse Center, especially, has expanded its offerings and is THE place to be! We all have Katie Deits to thank for that. She has provided a very welcoming change! And, of course, there is Julie Beaumont...What energy and enthusiasm! BRAVO to both!!!

Welcome and Good Luck to Linda Mathison who is taking over editing of our BLOG. And Thank You So Much to Doreen LePore, who created it and has done such a fine job for us.

Our meeting this month is going to be a critique of the Student/Member Show. Come prepared to move around the galleries. It should be fun.

Last month we had a really interesting demo by Ted Matz on his watercolor technique. I think that Ted was able to interest a number of members in one of his workshops given at the Lighthouse Center for the Arts. I think that the demos given by those who are currently teaching in the area are especially beneficial in that the artists are able to really explain their methods.

February was just so busy with several wonderful openings at the Lighthouse. The auction of bras at the BRA-VO event was a fabulous evening of fun for a very serious cause. Katie Deitz did a terrific job. Next year, I hope that more of you decide to add entries...although, I'm not quite sure how we can top this year's event! The current exhibits at LCAA are not to be missed. There were two outstanding Art and Antique shows at the Convention Center and their opening evenings were quite posh. The Fine Craft Show is the first weekend in March and I'm looking forward to that one to kind of top off the season

.
Our March artist demonstrator will be Ann Lawtey. Ann is an oil painter who has had a very successful gallery career with monotype prints from her oils.
