FEBRUARY 2010

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, GERRI AURRE:

It's been a busy January art scene and that is a good thing for all of us! The Palm Beach Contemporary Art Show was just fantastic and everyone I spoke to agreed. There was a lot of diversity and truly awesome art. The American International Fine Art Fair will be from February 3-8 at the Convention Center and I highly recommend that show as well. Free tickets can be downloaded.: www.aifaf.com

The Lighthouse Center for the Arts had its opening of the Contempo Show on January 14th and Linda Mathison dazzled us by being the 2nd place winner in this juried show. Congratulations, Linda!

Lois Barton's impressive show of abstract art and ceramics is at PBG Town Hall. Her work is very strong and beautiful.

DON'T MISS the BRA-VO cocktail party and auction at LCAA on February 11, from 5:30-7:30. First of all, the bras are extraordinary and the evening will be such fun. I think that a few of us will even be wearing interesting "art".

Also, on the "TO DO" list should be the 3rd Thursday events at the Lighthouse Center. January's program was sooo interesting. The Burt Reynold's Institute did an acting demo using audience participants. They were unbelievably good!

The Village Art Studios hold their monthly evening openings on that Thursday as well. The musical entertainment, alone, makes this a fun event.

Katy DiGioia has been busy planning a possible summer show at FAU. They are requiring a theme and submission of a disc with juried entries. She's decided on: "Where the Wild Things Are", and entries need to be a MINIMUM of 24x36 inches. FAU is interested in about 20 large pieces. She will be asking Julie Beaumont to jury for us....this will be all done during February, so start planning and painting!

Recent sales have included several lighthouse prints by Linda Mathison, at the Corner Cafe and Carol Steinberg's landscape at Fantasia. Keelee Wright has been selling quite a few of her lighthouses and lots of tee shirts.

Ted Matz will be demonstrating his oil painting technique at our February meeting in the Lighthouse main gallery. See you then!
