FEBRUARY 2010

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, GERRI AURRE:

It's been a busy January art scene and that is a good thing for all of us! The Palm Beach Contemporary Art Show was just fantastic and everyone I spoke to agreed. There was a lot of diversity and truly awesome art. The American International Fine Art Fair will be from February 3-8 at the Convention Center and I highly recommend that show as well. Free tickets can be downloaded.: www.aifaf.com

The Lighthouse Center for the Arts had its opening of the Contempo Show on January 14th and Linda Mathison dazzled us by being the 2nd place winner in this juried show. Congratulations, Linda!

Lois Barton's impressive show of abstract art and ceramics is at PBG Town Hall. Her work is very strong and beautiful.

DON'T MISS the BRA-VO cocktail party and auction at LCAA on February 11, from 5:30-7:30. First of all, the bras are extraordinary and the evening will be such fun. I think that a few of us will even be wearing interesting "art".

Also, on the "TO DO" list should be the 3rd Thursday events at the Lighthouse Center. January's program was sooo interesting. The Burt Reynold's Institute did an acting demo using audience participants. They were unbelievably good!

The Village Art Studios hold their monthly evening openings on that Thursday as well. The musical entertainment, alone, makes this a fun event.

Katy DiGioia has been busy planning a possible summer show at FAU. They are requiring a theme and submission of a disc with juried entries. She's decided on: "Where the Wild Things Are", and entries need to be a MINIMUM of 24x36 inches. FAU is interested in about 20 large pieces. She will be asking Julie Beaumont to jury for us....this will be all done during February, so start planning and painting!

Recent sales have included several lighthouse prints by Linda Mathison, at the Corner Cafe and Carol Steinberg's landscape at Fantasia. Keelee Wright has been selling quite a few of her lighthouses and lots of tee shirts.

Ted Matz will be demonstrating his oil painting technique at our February meeting in the Lighthouse main gallery. See you then!

JANUARY 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, GERRI AURRE:

The December holiday meeting was a very pleasant evening. I think that everyone really enjoyed the film of Joe LaPierre painting with his pallette knife and I will be happy to show it again sometime. We have lost a great person and the opportunity of actually having Joe teach classes in this technique.
Art Basel was a fantastic event again this year. Katie Dietz has asked me to plan a bus trip for next year.....I'll get some of you there yet! I took several hundred pictures of Art at several events, so stop by the Village Art Studios and I'll show the CD.
Our January meeting will be at The Lighthouse Center for the Arts.
Nannette Clapman Blinchikoff will be presenting a program on The Business of Art: Promoting Art with Integrity. She was recommended to us by LCAA so I expect it to be an informative meeting. There will be materials handed out.
There was considerable confusion at the Corner Cafe last month. I will be there at the next change and plan on taking down any paintings that have been hanging for longer than a month. Also, once again, people are requested NOT to hang their own work. It needs to be done in an equitable manner and not be disturbing to any diners.
Camille has requested that we find someone else to take over chairing this venue. Anyone interested?
BRA-VO entries are due at LCAA on Tuesday, January 5th. It's going to be tremendous fun, so be creative and enter your decorated bra! I would think that the opening will be a riot. We need to encourage the Lighthouse to have more exhibits by local artists. They can be among the most creative and lucrative events they have. This show will be from January 7-February 11.
Quite a few of our members were juried in to have their work exhibited at CONTEMPO. Congratulations to all! This show will be from January 7-February 6. Again, the opening should be an exciting event. This show coincides with the contemporary show at the Convention Center in West Palm at the end of January.
We are looking for some really fine painters to do demos for us this Spring....Any ideas??
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL
