October 2009

Lazy Loxahatchee - Pastel

Message from the President, Gerri Aurre:

First of all, I am very happy to report that Carol Steinberg is recovering at an astonishing rate from her recent surgery. I'm sure that she will be back to normal and better than ever, within weeks.

Everyone who was at the September meeting has reported that they really enjoyed Doreen Lepore's pastel demo. Her approach was to take a cue from the cooking shows and prepare the "dish" by having the end result magically appear from the oven! What fun.

Our October meeting will feature Mary D'Avanzo, who will discuss how she creates her beautiful collages from found treasures and adds an Asian quality to them.

Egypt is still very much on my mind as we start the Fall season and I have already added impressions of the trip to my abstract painting. My first love, though, has to be Plein-aire. There is nothing more inspiring than to be outside with the view in front of me, ready for the challenge of my interpretation. Once the weather cools down, we'll start finding wonderful spots around our area to paint and enjoy.

Upcoming events include:

  • Show at the Lake Park Library, delivery on Oct. 1, 2 to 5 - Opening Oct 5, 5-7 PM
  • 3rd Thursday....October 15th.....at the Lighthouse Center for the Arts - This will be when "The Village Art Studios" will be in costume for Halloween....join us!
  • We will be in costume again, all day, on the 31st, as we paint the day away....join us again!
  • D'Art for Art donations to be delivered by Oct. 30th and tickets are still available for the event on Nov. 14th.
