The Lighthouse Art Center Members Show was a big success this year. There were many new faces in the galleries and a lot of interesting work. Our own, Linda Mathison received an Honorable Mention for one of her beautiful naturally dyed pieces.

Their Children’s Show is next on the agenda and NCAA will be giving prizes on the Elementary, Middle School and High School levels. Our very capable judges will be Katy DiGioia and Karen Reinhart. We will also be granting a scholarship this month for tuition to the summer art program.

It is only in the planning stages, but, hopefully, in the fall, we will be having our own NCAA show.  The Board is looking for venues, possibly at one of the Jupiter town events. Any suggestions would be really welcomed.

I have been very pleased by the variety and depth of presenters this season.  It isn’t always easy to find new and interesting people who want to share their stories.  Luckily, Linda Mathison and I are always on the prowl around the county….We enjoy socializing with artists and groups….and it keeps us engaged as artists.

Our speaker this month will be Janeen Mason.  Janeen is quite dynamic, as many of you already know.  I asked her to tell us about her art and career. She has done a fine job at LAC and it will be fun to hear more about her.

I am off to Washington to see the new Museum of African American Art and then on to New York for the Whitney Biennial, The Frieze Show and the Met Fashion Opening.  Next month I will give
a full report!

We are coming to the end of another season in South Florida and
I am sure that many of you are ready to settle down and make some Art!

The Lighthouse Art Center's late spring and summer catalog is out and I particularly  like the Open Studios for portraiture and figure study. The Member show has been hung and awards will be presented on April 20th, from 5:30-7:30.

Our demonstrator this month is Gary Antonio.  Gary has had a long career as an abstract painter and I am sure that he will have interesting antidotes to entertain us with.

Have very happy holidays in April.

We had a really interesting meeting in February.  Cheryl Maeder was our presenter and she is an artist who has established herself globally.  She said that luck had nothing to do with it!   It was all hard work!

In March I have invited a young woman who is a multi-media artist and is fast becoming well known in South Florida.  Sarah Knouse creates very unusual pieces in equally unusual media  and has a lot to say. Join us!

The opening of the Town of Jupiter Juried Show is on Friday, March 3rd from 6-7:30 at the Community Center.

The current show at the Norton Museum in West Palm is fascinating.  Svenja Deininger is this year’s woman exhibiting in the Recognition of Art by Women series. She is an abstract artist and is really exploring what it is to be an oil painter in 2017. Admission to the museum is free, while under construction, and they have excellent Thursday night programs, with music and drinks in the courtyard.

Another wonderful ongoing program are the Salons at the Armory.  They are presented by Elle Shorr and feature artist talks by interesting local people that she has encountered at events all over South Florida. They are on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30.

The Village Art Studios is having its annual wine tasting and charity event on March 16th…5:30 to 7:30.  This year we are donating to a local dance company and all glasses will be available for a $10 donation. Come and sample wines all around the studio.

Plein air is still happening on Wednesday mornings.  Check with Bill Sabino.

Congratulations to Pam Ayers for her lovely show at Juno Town Hall.

If you haven’t paid your dues, now is the time. We would like to have enough $$$ to generously donate to local art programs.

Have a great month in our beautiful weather!

Our meeting this month is featuring Cheryl Maeder.  I feel quite lucky to have gotten her to speak to us.  Cheryl is an internationally known photographer and film maker, whose work is shown by several galleries at Art Basel and at the Contemporary Shows that came to West Palm in January. She is witty and fun and has really “made it” in the art world.  I’m sure that her story, and her art, will be wonderful.

The March Celebration of the Arts is being hosted by the Town of Jupiter Art Gallery. It is an exhibit of exotic and native wild  Cash prizes. This is going to be a JURIED SHOW and entry forms can be downloaded by contacting Linda Mathison.
Respond by February 13th for this March 3 to April 28th show.

Elle Schorr's Art Salons are the 1st Tuesday of every month at the Armory Art Center 6:30-8:30pm in the library.  These are worthwhile presentations by interesting artists from our area.  I'm sure you'll enjoy attending.  For further information and videos of past presentations visit: and click Art Salons.

The South Florida Basket and Fiber Guild is hosting a show The Perspectives in Fiber; Moving Beyond Tradition at the Armory Annex Gallery in Lake Worth January 7-February 9, 2017.  For more information and schedule of events visit:  You'll find some amazing new work in the fiber world including a basket by Linda Mathison.
Plein Aire will be happening on Wednesday mornings.  Contact Bill Sabino about locations.

Please remember that it is time for 2017 DUES…..$35…..Bill will be at our meeting to collect
your cash or checks.

When delivery your art to the Corner Cafe, please wait outside until Gerri or Efrain arrive.  They will hand you your displayed work and then hang your new work.  We don't want to disturb the restaurant patrons.  Thank you.

We try to do good deeds in the local Art community throughout the year and are always open
to suggestions of worthy causes.

This month we are going to have our NCAA meeting at UNIQUE GLASS ART.

Carolyn Austin is going to talk to us about how she creates her etched, carved and fused glass. It should be an interesting and fun evening.

The canceled show at the Jupiter Community Center has been rescheduled for January. The Jupiter Art Committee has really made an effort to include us in their schedule. We will each be able to submit one piece to this show. If you have submitted payment you will need to contact Linda at:, by Friday, November 18th with the title of the piece you would like included. The committee has not cashed your check as of yet, so if you prefer, you can just withdraw from this show.

December will mean it is again time for our elections….Please contact me, Linda or Katy if you are interested in getting more involved….that would be great.  New ideas are certainly welcome! We also would love to have a chair person for the Corner Cafe…. Any ideas about places to display our work???
