MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Welcome to a new art season.  This year we are going to try some new venues for our members. North County Art Association will be taking a booth at the Jupiter Fall Fest on October 7th. This event is happening under the Indiantown bridge and will be from 12 to 5 on that Saturday. The board has decided on a maximum size of 18x24.  Delivery will be right to the site by 11AM that morning. Just let Linda Mathison, mathisonlr@gmail.com know you are coming. Wish us good weather and good luck....if we have a good experience, we will join in other Jupiter town events.

The annual show at the Jupiter Community Center will be from October 6 to November 10. Entry forms are available from Linda Mathison, mathisonlr@gmail.com and are due by September 25th to the Town art committee. Art delivery is on October 2, between 9 and 12. Opening reception will be on Friday, October 6, 6-7:30. This is a show we have been invited to for over twenty years.....I hope we have a great showing.

Katy DiGioia will be running our September meeting.  She has asked Adra Brown to be our demonstrator.  Adra is teaching oil painting at the Lighthouse on Thursdays. Her demo will be about painting shadows, values and colors in still lives.

We all wish our sincere condolences to Carol Steinberg on the passing of her husband Bob.  Carol organized NCAA and was our president for many years.

Have a great month and start painting!
Gerri

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

The Lighthouse Art Center Members Show was a big success this year. There were many new faces in the galleries and a lot of interesting work. Our own, Linda Mathison received an Honorable Mention for one of her beautiful naturally dyed pieces.

Their Children’s Show is next on the agenda and NCAA will be giving prizes on the Elementary, Middle School and High School levels. Our very capable judges will be Katy DiGioia and Karen Reinhart. We will also be granting a scholarship this month for tuition to the summer art program.

It is only in the planning stages, but, hopefully, in the fall, we will be having our own NCAA show.  The Board is looking for venues, possibly at one of the Jupiter town events. Any suggestions would be really welcomed.

I have been very pleased by the variety and depth of presenters this season.  It isn’t always easy to find new and interesting people who want to share their stories.  Luckily, Linda Mathison and I are always on the prowl around the county….We enjoy socializing with artists and groups….and it keeps us engaged as artists.

Our speaker this month will be Janeen Mason.  Janeen is quite dynamic, as many of you already know.  I asked her to tell us about her art and career. She has done a fine job at LAC and it will be fun to hear more about her.

I am off to Washington to see the new Museum of African American Art and then on to New York for the Whitney Biennial, The Frieze Show and the Met Fashion Opening.  Next month I will give
a full report!

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

We are coming to the end of another season in South Florida and
I am sure that many of you are ready to settle down and make some Art!

The Lighthouse Art Center's late spring and summer catalog is out and I particularly  like the Open Studios for portraiture and figure study. The Member show has been hung and awards will be presented on April 20th, from 5:30-7:30.

Our demonstrator this month is Gary Antonio.  Gary has had a long career as an abstract painter and I am sure that he will have interesting antidotes to entertain us with.

Have very happy holidays in April.
Gerri

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

We had a really interesting meeting in February.  Cheryl Maeder was our presenter and she is an artist who has established herself globally.  She said that luck had nothing to do with it!   It was all hard work!

In March I have invited a young woman who is a multi-media artist and is fast becoming well known in South Florida.  Sarah Knouse creates very unusual pieces in equally unusual media  and has a lot to say. Join us!

The opening of the Town of Jupiter Juried Show is on Friday, March 3rd from 6-7:30 at the Community Center.

The current show at the Norton Museum in West Palm is fascinating.  Svenja Deininger is this year’s woman exhibiting in the Recognition of Art by Women series. She is an abstract artist and is really exploring what it is to be an oil painter in 2017. Admission to the museum is free, while under construction, and they have excellent Thursday night programs, with music and drinks in the courtyard.

Another wonderful ongoing program are the Salons at the Armory.  They are presented by Elle Shorr and feature artist talks by interesting local people that she has encountered at events all over South Florida. They are on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30.

The Village Art Studios is having its annual wine tasting and charity event on March 16th…5:30 to 7:30.  This year we are donating to a local dance company and all glasses will be available for a $10 donation. Come and sample wines all around the studio.

Plein air is still happening on Wednesday mornings.  Check with Bill Sabino.

Congratulations to Pam Ayers for her lovely show at Juno Town Hall.

If you haven’t paid your dues, now is the time. We would like to have enough $$$ to generously donate to local art programs.

Have a great month in our beautiful weather!
Gerri

Our meeting this month is featuring Cheryl Maeder.  I feel quite lucky to have gotten her to speak to us.  Cheryl is an internationally known photographer and film maker, whose work is shown by several galleries at Art Basel and at the Contemporary Shows that came to West Palm in January. She is witty and fun and has really “made it” in the art world.  I’m sure that her story, and her art, will be wonderful.

The March Celebration of the Arts is being hosted by the Town of Jupiter Art Gallery. It is an exhibit of exotic and native wild animals..land..air..aquatic.  Cash prizes. This is going to be a JURIED SHOW and entry forms can be downloaded by contacting Linda Mathison.  mathisonlr@gmail.com
